Operational Technology (OT) and Industrial Control Systems (ICS) Cybersecurity

Operational Technology (OT) refers to the hardware and software used to monitor and control physical devices, processes, and events in industrial settings. Industrial Control Systems (ICS) are a critical subset of OT, which includes various types of control systems like Distributed Control Systems (DCS), SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), and PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers). A Distributed Control System (DCS) is a computerized control system used primarily in process industries (like oil and gas, chemical plants, power generation) to manage complex, continuous processes. Its key characteristic is that control functions are distributed across various autonomous controllers throughout the plant, all connected to a central operator supervisory control.

DCS Training is essential for engineers, operators, and maintenance professionals to competently manage, program, and troubleshoot these complex systems. Effective training programs typically cover:

  • DCS Architecture and Components: Understanding the controllers, I/O modules, Human-Machine Interface (HMI), and engineering workstations.
